Fenestration Canada Update on Tariffs

Hello, Fenestration Canada Members,

Over the past month, Fenestration Canada has been actively monitoring and presenting on the threats the new US administration has made regarding applying 25% tariffs on all goods shipped by Canada into the US. On Saturday,  February 1st, President Trump signed an executive order enacting the terms needed to act on this threat. On February 3rd, those tariffs were put on a 30-day hold while additional negotiations continue.

The potential fallout of the actualized threat is unmistakably disastrous for Canada. In support of our members, our team at Fenestration Canada will continue to monitor the situation and begin putting into action steps to support you all.  Over the coming month, we will be drafting a formal response to this threat and what we'd like to see from our Canadian government during this crisis and coordinating with our partners to support similar messaging aimed at being clear on the absurdity of a trade war between the US and Canada and our outright disapproval of any actions starting or escalating a trade war. In addition, we'll be producing a "Go Forward" plan to help provide guidance and an outline of the various steps needed to help stabilize and safeguard the Canadian Fenestration industry from the worst effects of a potential trade war with the US.

I'll be reaching out to manufacturers in the coming weeks to gather input to help qualify effective plans to support our industry. I encourage you all to reach out to me if you have any questions on the current state of the tariff threat or have any suggestions on what additional support to our industry should be included.

Thank you,

Adrian Edge
